"We don't want to apportion any blame and wish to be left alone to grieve as a family."

Sadiq Khan appoints Lord Mandelson to advise on Brexit

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has hired Lord Mandelson as part of a team to help him make sure the capital gets the best EU exit deal.

Lord Mandelson, one of the architects of New Labour, will be advising Mr Khan on risks and challenges London may face throughout Brexit negotiations.

Mr Khan has been clear he wants the capital to push for its own Brexit deal, claiming that ministers are not listening to businesses.

He is considering proposals for a bespoke London work permit to give guarantees for EU workers in London and help meet the demands for skilled workers.

The move will be seen as a message to the Government that he wants London's business interests to be looked after in Brexit negotiations.

"Securing privileged access to the single market, maintaining a world-class financial sector and ensuring London can continue to attract global talent are all recurring themes from my conversations with business and I look forward to working with this panel as we aim to strike a deal that works for the capital."
